The Latvian lats coin with an owl brooch is built into the foundations of the new housing project on Pūces Street
An important milestone was reached in the development of the first phase of the new housing project UPLEVEL HOME in Riga, Pūces Street – the concreting of the foundations base was completed. A capsule with the symbolic one Latvian lats owl brooch coin, put into circulation by the Bank of Latvia in 2007, was buried in the foundations of the future houses for several families.
The coin with the image of an owl brooch was chosen as a symbolic testimony of the time, as just as in the construction and improvement of modern, energy-efficient and prestigious houses, the making of the owl brooch required an excellent craftsmanship, and the process of making it was very labor-intensive and nuanced. These brooches were found in the burials of wealthy people and are considered as proof of the status of their time.
The owl brooch, made in the shape of an owl’s head, is one of the oldest and most expressive ornaments of Latgale men, which was used to fasten a cloak. They were common in the territory inhabited by balti tribes around the 8th and 9th centuries.
UPLEVEL HOME is a unique concept housing in Latvia, which is being built in the heart of Purvciems – close to the center of the capital, but away from the hustle and bustle at the same time – in the green and quiet Pūces Street. In total, the project includes 17 thoughtfully planned two-story homes with a 40-80 square meter private courtyard and a separately usable roof terrace of 45 square meters in two phases.
The 1st phase of the project with seven dwellings is expected to be put into operation in the middle of 2024.
